Dear LNG 16 participants and delegates,
We are sorry that many of you were unable to attend the LNG 16 conference due to airport closures in Europe as a result of the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Despite the travel difficulties and the last minute changes to the program schedule, the conference was generally considered to be a great success, and thanks must go to everyone involved who worked tirelessly to adapt the program, schedule and other activities to the new circumstances. The program was condensed to two days (20th & 21st April) to allow for as many delegates and speakers as possible to participate. I also want to thank those speakers who made the impossible to reach Algeria for their presentations and to those who replaced them when they eventually fail to get there.
Because some of you have been unable to experience the conference first hand, we, as usual, have collected the presentations from all our speakers and these are now available to download from our ftp (details have been emailed to all delegates and speakers). Videos of the presentations which did take place will also be available shortly.
I would also like to thank our hosts in Algeria for their warm welcome and hospitality during the event. Algeria remains an important country for the LNG industry and the oil & gas community generally. For those of you who were unable to attend LNG 16 to network and find out about new developments in Algeria there are further oil & gas events supported by Sonatrach later in the year.

 Au nom du gouvernement algérien, j’ai le grand plaisir
d’annoncer la construction d’un nouveau Centre de Conventions
destiné à accueillir la 16e Conférence Internationale et
l’Exposition sur le Gaz Naturel Liquéfié (GNL 16), prévue du
18 au 21 avril 2010.
L’Algérie, qui a eu l’honneur d’organiser le LNG4 en 1974 à
Alger, est fière d’accueillir encore une fois cet événement. En
2010, le LNG 16 se déroulera à Oran, la deuxième grande ville
d’Algérie. Oran abrite également les installations à Arzew,
ce qui facilitera l’organisation des visites techniques qui font
partie intégrante du programme de cette manifestation.
 Le nouveau Centre de Conventions d’Oran a été conçu pour
satisfaire les besoins spécifiques de l’événement du LNG16. Il
sera composé principalement d’un auditorium de 3.000 places,
de deux salles de sessions de 500 places chacune, de vingt salles
de réunion, d’un palais des expositions de 20.000 mètres carrés,
d’une salle de banquet de 2.000 couverts et d’un hôtel cinq
étoiles de 300 chambres.
Le contrat de réalisation de ce nouveau Centre de Conventions
a été remporté par le groupe espagnol OHL. Les participants
au LNG15 connaissent le travail d’OHL à travers le Centre de
Conventions International de Barcelona (CCIB) qui a abrité
cette conférence.
La ville d’Oran connaît un regain significatif en matière
d’infrastructures, elle abrite les structures de l’une des branches
de Sonatrach, en l’occurrence l’Activité Aval, dont le nouveau
siège social vient d’être opérationnel, ainsi que plusieurs projets
d’hôtels de standards internationaux qui seront réceptionnés
avant la tenue du LNG16. En outre le gouvernement algérien
travaille avec le Comité National d’Organisation (CNO) du
LNG16 et avec Sonatrach pour assurer aux participants des
vols directs, le transport local, la sécurité, la facilité d’obtention
de visas, etc. et toutes les conditions nécessaires à un événement
de cette importance.
Situé sur un promontoire donnant sur la mer Méditerranée,
le Centre de Conventions d’Oran sera une structure iconique
de notre ville qui conviendra à l’envergure internationale du
LNG16. Nous attendons avec intérêt de vous accueillir au LNG
16, à Oran en avril 2010.
